THE WEDNESDAY REPORT: August 30, 2023

Rehearsal Agenda · This Week in Liturgy · Looking Ahead · Resources

Dear Partners in Ministry,

Somehow, we've arrived at the end of August, and September brings a slew of busy-but-good moments for us. Read on!

A Few Updates to the Wednesday Report

I came up with a few new tweaks to this weekly post that I hope you'll find useful:

SHORTCUTS: You might have noticed this little makeshift menu bar at the top of this post. These four links will skip down to the major sections of the post each week for your convenience. Unfortunately, our web content service strips out the code that makes this possible, so this feature is on hold for now.

CALENDAR: A new addition this week: a live calendar of events for all things Music Ministry! See rehearsals (and no-rehearsal days), Masses, special events, and more. I'll update this frequently, so do give it a look each week. The link is the new Resources section (see below).

RESOURCES: At the bottom of the post, there's a new section that contains links to the new Music Ministry Calendar, Cantor Hub, Concert Series, and upcoming music selections. If you can think of something else that should be there week to week, let me know...

Mass of Encounter

We're ready to take our first steps into Mass of Encounter this weekend with the introduction of the Holy. Count on some pre-teaching before Mass for the next several weeks as we phase this setting in. We'll continue working on it in rehearsal too, of course. If things go to plan we should be singing this whole setting harmonized by our parish feast day celebrations October 21-22.

Labor Day: No Music

We will not include music for the 9:00 am Mass on Labor Day.

Gaudete Update

The scores for "O Magnum Mysterium" arrived this morning, meaning our Gaudete score collection is complete. Be sure to stop by your folder tomorrow night for this and any other of the four pieces you need. All four are available on Cantamus, and good performances of three of them are linked below. We start rehearsing them next Thursday (after an hour or so of weekend rep, we'll turn to these pieces and those not singing for the concert are welcome to head home at that point).

Blest Be the Star, Christoper Willcock

Jubilate Deo, Peter Anglea

O Magnum Mysterium, Evan Ramos

The Angel Gabriel, Basque carol, arr. me

Music Turn-Ins: Sep 7, Oct 26, Nov 30

It's been a while since we've turned music in, so let's get ready to do so next Thursday, September 7. Then, starting October 26, we'll turn in music on the last Thursday of every month, so that neither you nor the librarians end up with too much music to deal with at once.
