THE WEDNESDAY REPORT: November 22, 2023

Dear Partners in Ministry,

Happy Saint Cecilia's Day! As you may know, Cecilia is the most prominent patron saint of music (there are others, including Gregory the Great, Ambrose, and the recently canonized Hildegard von Bingen). From the days of Henry Purcell, St. Cecilia's Day has been an occasion to celebrate music (and musicians) as a gift and blessing from God; so, on this Thanksgiving-adjacent feast day, please know that I'm giving thanks for all of you!

Thanksgiving Day Mass

A reminder that you're all welcome to join me in ministry for our annual Thanksgiving Day Mass at 9:00 am. Please arrive by 8:30 to prepare. You'll find the music selections on the other side of the November 26 music selection sheet, and in the Fall selections online.

Breaking Bread Switchout Day this Sunday

With the celebration of Christ the King this weekend, we come to the end of the 2023 liturgical year, and the 2023 Breaking Bread missals. At the 11 am Mass, I'll ask the congregation to remove the missals from the pew pockets and place them at the ends of their rows, but I'll need at least six volunteers to help me remove the rest, make the switch, and get the 2024 edition in place. If you're able to help, please let me know.

Music Turn-In Next Week!

A reminder that we'll turn in a TON of music next Thursday, November 30...

To make things easier until then, feel free to safely store the following scores at home for now:

  • 2.018 · Psalms, Volume I (Ward)
  • 3.010 · Canticle of the Turning (Cooney)
  • 3.026 · The Summons (KELVINGROVE/Bell, arr. Fisher)
  • 3.060 · In Your Dwelling Place (Ward)— Resurrection Choir keeps their copy
  • 3.064 · May We Praise You (Foley)
  • 3.078 · Nunc dimittis (Taizé)
  • 6.008 · Bless the Lord (NETTLETON/Ward/St. Noel)
  • 8.010 · Spirit of Our God (Ward)

You still need these scores, but we'll turn them in with the rest on November 30:

  • 1.004 · Mass of Encounter (Ward)
  • 2.014 · Psalm 24: Complete Setting (Ward)
  • 2.017 · Psalm 23: Complete Setting (Ward)
  • 3.058 · O God, You Search Me (Farrell)
  • 3.066 · Bread for the World (Farrell)
  • 3.061 · Take and Eat (Joncas)
  • 3.065 · Laudate Dominum (Taizé)
  • 3.069 · In the Lord I'll Be Ever Thankful (Taizé)

You may safely assume that any piece I didn't list here needs to stay with you for the time being.

Reminder: Mass of Encounter Survey

This is the last weekend to take my Mass of Encounter survey. The survey can be taken online at stnoel.org/massofencounter, or on paper in the narthex. Thanks to everyone who've already responded!
