THE WEDNESDAY REPORT: November 15, 2023

Dear Partners in Ministry,

I'm back in the office after a few lousy days dealing with a sinus infection. I'm sorry I had to leave the 9 am and miss the 11 am, but I'm so grateful to those of you who were there at those Masses for serving our people in my absence! A very special thank you to Elke, Matt, Kathy Siath, and Michele Baetzold for going above and beyond to ensure all the bases were covered.

Let's talk a bit about the busy week ahead, lightening our load a bit, and preparing for Advent.

Music Turn-In November 30

Come, all you who labor and are burdened by increasingly heavy choir binders! We will finally purge a ton of music before rehearsal on Thursday, November 30.

To make things easier until then, feel free to safely store the following scores at home for now:

  • 2.018 · Psalms, Volume I (Ward)
  • 3.010 · Canticle of the Turning (Cooney)
  • 3.026 · The Summons (KELVINGROVE/Bell, arr. Fisher)
  • 3.060 · In Your Dwelling Place (Ward)— Resurrection Choir keeps their copy
  • 3.064 · May We Praise You (Foley)
  • 3.078 · Nunc dimittis (Taizé)
  • 6.008 · Bless the Lord (NETTLETON/Ward/St. Noel)
  • 8.010 · Spirit of Our God (Ward)

You still need these scores, but we'll turn them in with the rest on November 30:

  • 1.004 · Mass of Encounter (Ward)
  • 2.014 · Psalm 24: Complete Setting (Ward)
  • 2.017 · Psalm 23: Complete Setting (Ward)
  • 3.058 · O God, You Search Me (Farrell)
  • 3.066 · Bread for the World (Farrell)
  • 3.061 · Take and Eat (Joncas)
  • 3.065 · Laudate Dominum (Taizé)
  • 3.069 · In the Lord I'll Be Ever Thankful (Taizé)

You may safely assume that any piece I didn't list here needs to stay with you for the time being.

Taizé Prayer Next Tuesday

We're celebrating a service of light and gratitude with the music of Taizé next Tuesday at 7 pm in the church. While a choir isn't necessary for the service, voices are! I invite all of you to come join us as members of the singing assembly (and solid singers for the four-part harmony). I'm also in need of a few lectors and cantors (the verses of Taizé pieces are generally easy-medium difficulty, but can be rather "range-y" and would require a quick study). If you're interested in either of these ministries, let me know as soon as you're able. Thanks!

Thanksgiving Day Mass

Speaking of praying with gratitude, our annual Thanksgiving Day Mass will begin at 9:00 am on the holiday. All are welcome to take part in Music Ministry for this liturgy. Please arrive by 8:30 to prepare. You'll find the music selections on the other side of the November 26 music selection sheet, and in the Fall selections online.

RE-reminder: Volunteers for Next Concert

Our next Concert Series event is three days away (Saturday, November 18, 7 pm), a return performance by the wonderful Cleveland Celtic Ensemble. I'm in need of 2-4 volunteers to greet our audience members, hand out programs, and lend a hand to our guests when needed. If you can assist, thank you! Please drop me a line if interested.

Reminder: Mass of Encounter Survey

A reminder that I'm asking for feedback— positive or otherwise!— on my Mass setting, Mass of Encounter. The survey can be taken online at stnoel.org/massofencounter, or on paper in the narthex. Thanks to everyone who've already responded!
