THE WEDNESDAY REPORT: October 8, 2025

Dear Partners in Ministry,

A series of quick but helpful bits of information for you this week!

ANOINTING OF THE SICK THIS WEEKEND: We celebrate the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick at each of our Masses this weekend. Musically, there are a few additions and alterations to note, so here's an overview of the rite (we'll walk through this tomorrow night in rehearsal):

  • After the homily, we'll pray the Apostles' Creed instead of the Nicene.
  • A litany of intercessions follows (which takes the place of the Prayer of the Faithful), with a simple chanted response: "Lord, have mercy."
  • The Laying on of Hands takes place in silence.
  • We then say a prayer of thanksgiving for the Oil of the Sick, which was blessed at the Chrism Mass during Holy Week. This also features a sung response: "Blessed be God who heals us in Christ."
  • After Fr. Terry offers some instruction, we'll proceed with the Anointing, which will flow like a regular Communion procession. If you will be staying behind in the choir area, Fr. Terry will come to you after he anoints those in line, but please line up in the aisle between the bell tables if at all possible. During the Anointing, we'll sing "Most Holy One."
  • A Prayer After Anointing follows; Mass then continues with the Preparation of Gifts.

PARISH FEAST DAY NEXT WEEKEND: A reminder that our parish family celebrates its namesake next weekend, as we mark the Memorial of the "North American Martyrs," Jesuit missionaries (including Noel Chabanel) and their companions. The 9:00 am Mass is considered an "All Choir" Mass. The Bellflower String Quartet will join us for all Masses.

GAUDETE REHEARSAL TRACKS: Pam P has added another set of tracks for you— this time, for "E'en So, Lord Jesus, Quickly Come." (Thanks again, Pam!) [UPDATE] Links are now available at the bottom of this post.

CONCERT SERIES BROCHURES: Season brochures for the Concert Series are now available in the narthex kiosk. Take a few and share away! If you'd like a digital copy (PDF), email me.

ADVENT AND CHRISTMAS EVE/DAY SELECTIONS NOW AVAILABLE: The link to our selections for the Advent Season and Christmas Eve/Day is now active; visit the bottom of this post to see what's in store. I hope to add selections for the remainder of the Christmas Season (Dec 28–Jan 11) in the next week or so.

Tony Ward
