THE WEDNESDAY REPORT: November 29, 2023

Dear Partners in Ministry,

Happy Liturgical New Year! The season of Advent awaits us this weekend (with Gaudete! and Christmas barreling towards us too). A very special thank you to Kathy, Anthony, Karin, Pat, Tess, and Rich for their help in switching out our pew missals this Sunday; with that task completed, and with some productive rehearsal tomorrow night, we'll be more than ready to welcome this new season with hope and joy. (Just don't get too attached to the Fourth Week of Advent this year; we only get it for about 12 hours!)

Blessing of the Advent Wreath

At each of our weekend Masses, we'll bless the Advent Wreath. It's a simple rite which takes place immediately following the intercessions. The only musical element of it is that we'll begin the gifts piece (The King Shall Come When Morning Dawns) with a long introduction as the server lights the first candle. Once Fr. Terry invites the assembly to be seated, we'll begin singing.

Gaudete Concert Order

Tomorrow night, I'll have the final concert order in print for you. Next week, I plan to give you scores of the sing-along pieces, so that everything you'll need will be in your binder for the big day.

Music Turn-In Tomorrow!

The day of liberation has (almost) arrived! Tomorrow night, we'll finally lighten our binders by turning in the fifteen pieces listed below:

  1. 1.004 · Mass of Encounter (Ward)
  2. 2.010 · Shepherd Me, O God (Haugen)
  3. 2.014 · Psalm 24: Complete Setting (Ward)
  4. 2.017 · Psalm 23: Complete Setting (Ward)
  5. 2.018 · Psalms, Volume I (Ward)
  6. 3.010 · Canticle of the Turning (Cooney)
  7. 3.058 · O God, You Search Me (Farrell)
  8. 3.060 · In Your Dwelling Place (Ward)— Resurrection Choir keeps their copy
  9. 3.064 · May We Praise You (Foley)
  10. 3.065 · Laudate Dominum (Taizé)
  11. 3.066 · Bread for the World (Farrell)
  12. 3.069 · In the Lord I'll Be Ever Thankful (Taizé)
  13. 3.078 · Nunc dimittis (Taizé)
  14. 6.008 · Bless the Lord (NETTLETON/Ward/St. Noel)
  15. 8.010 · Spirit of Our God (Ward)
  • This list is slightly revised, so be sure to double-check your score pile ahead of time.
  • Give yourself five minutes of early arrival time so you'll be able to turn this stuff in and prepare for rehearsal.
  • When you arrive, you'll find turn-in tables (with dry-erase table tents to guide you) in the narthex. Please be sure to add your folder number to your pieces before turning them in, so you'll have all the notes you take waiting for you next time.
  • Please do not turn in anything that isn't on this list.
  • If you have a lost or damaged score, please let the librarians know.
  • Immediately after rehearsal, I'd love some help in moving the piles of scores from the narthex to the bell tables for sorting on Friday. Thanks in advance!
