THE WEDNESDAY REPORT: November 13, 2024

Dear Partners in Ministry,

I don't recall ever having national news to share in a Wednesday Report before, but two important items await you this week.

Firstly, though, allow me to express my tremendous gratitude again to everyone who attended or served in ministry as we celebrated our beloved Camille Schroeck's funeral Mass this past Saturday. What a powerful and moving tribute to such a faith-filled and cherished member of our parish family. I coudn't be prouder of you all. Copies of the funeral worship aid are still available for you if you'd like one; just stop by the choir area or email me.

Peace be with you,

Tony

Bishop Woost Elected Divine Worship Chair

Last night, the USCCB (United States Conference of Catholic Bishops) elected our own Auxilliary, Bishop Michael Woost, as Chair of the Committee for Divine Worship. We here in Cleveland know Bishop Woost's expertise in liturgy well, and his leadership should be a great gift to the development of worship life for the American Church. Congratulations, Bishop Woost!

Immaculate Conception: A Holy Day After All

Generally, when a Holy Day of Obligation falls on a Monday or Saturday, the obligation can be abrogated (suspended) due to its proximity to a Sunday. Indeed, in the past, the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception (December 8) has been abrogated in this way, and when it falls on a Sunday (as it does this year), it has not only been abrogated but also transferred to Monday, December 9, since Sundays of Advent cannot be superseded by any other liturgical celebration. However, a recent petition to the Vatican by one American bishop sparked an immediate reversal of this policy, since the Immaculate Conception is considered the patronal feast of the United States. So: we're on. We will celebrate Masses on Monday, December 9 at 8:30 am and 7:00 pm. More details to come next week.
