THE WEDNESDAY REPORT: May 8, 2024

Dear Partners in Ministry,

Happy Ascension week! I've had to miss a day or two in the office this week due to family duties, so this is a brief one....

Peace be with you,
Tony

EMHCs: Reminders about the choir....

If you are assigned to B3/C3, you'll be wrapping up over in the choir area to distribute to me, the pianist, cantor, and those unable to  join the Communion procession. A few really important reminders, all of which are necessary to keep the flow of liturgy moving at its best:

  • Remember that, if the song is going, we're still actively ministering. Please do not begin distributing Communion to choir members until the song is completed. While it may seem logical in the moment to get a head start with the choir, it's a big disruption for the singers (imagine trying to distribute Communion to a lector mid-reading!), and the commotion of it will be heard by the entire congregation because of the choir mics.
  • When you arrive, please station yourselves behind the pianist, so that those who need to receive first (see below) can do so.
  • The first person to receive Communion, without exception, is the pianist. S/he has about ten seconds from the end of the Communion Song to receive, sit back at the piano, and begin improvising.
  • After the pianist, the director and cantor come to you to receive. Once these folks have received, it is "safe" to start distributing to choir members in their seats (the mics will be muted at this point).

Thank you for doing your part to make both of our ministries a success!

Music Ministry: Tomorrow Night is Cantor Night

Next Thursday (May 9)'s Music Ministry rehearsal will be for all cantors. We'll cover psalms and more for May 12–June 26. Even if you're not scheduled to serve as cantor for one of these weekends, please come and support each other by singing refrains, with group work on verses, and by contributing to discussion. If you are not a cantor or accompanist, you're off the hook for that night.
