THE WEDNESDAY REPORT: May 15, 2024

Dear Partners in Ministry,

As the Easter season comes to a close this weekend, allow me to thank you all for the many ways you served as Christ for others in this season! It's been a truly remarkable seven weeks, and as we celebrate Pentecost this weekend, please know that all the preparation and effort you put into your ministries have definitely borne fruit.

Speaking of Pentecost, be sure to read about the weekend below, as there are a few variables to be ready for.

Peace be with you,
Tony

Lectors: Make That Workbook Work for You

The first reading for Pentecost is a prime example of why a little preparation goes a long way— definitely not one you'd generally want to go to the ambo and read cold. The witnesses to the Spirit-filled apostles speaking in tongues do their best to impress with their thorough expertise in regional geography; this is a classic pronunciation pitfall for lectors, rife with tongue-twisters like "Medes," "Cappadocia," "Phyrgia," and the like.

The Workbook for Lectors is a truly valuable resource in times like these— and for any reading we'd proclaim. For each of those daunting locales, you'll find a straightforward pronunciation guide in the margin, along with brief backstories and reflection, and some sage and subtle tips for bringing this crucial narrative to life. If you're not already in the habit of using the Workbook for Lectors, give it a try the week before your next assignment, as you practice and ponder the scripture you'll proclaim.
