THE WEDNESDAY REPORT: July 17, 2024

Dear Partners in Ministry,

As I write this, we're just over fifty hours away from our Forty Hours! Our weekend of Solemn Eucharistic Adoration begins Friday with Evening Prayer at 8:00 pm. Here are some important details for all of us to keep in mind:

  • Because this is a continuous period of adoration, we intend to maintain a sacred silence in the church and narthex when the Blessed Sacrament is exposed (the half-hour or so before weekend Masses would be the only foreseeable time this wouldn't be the case). Please do your part to help foster a prayerful atmosphere.
  • There will be at least one member of the parish staff on site throughout the weekend.
  • We have some extraordinary moments in our weekend Masses:
    • Alumni from Cathedral Latin High School will join us in worship at the 5:00 p.
    • We will commission ten new EMHCs this weekend and welcome them into service at all three Masses. Congratulations to our new ministers!
    • Because the Forty Hours is a continuous liturgy, we will not dismiss in the same way we normally do (i.e., the Concluding Rites and Sending Forth). Instead, we re-expose the Blessed Sacrament and depart in sacred silence.
  • Music Ministry is welcome to join me in service for the first Evening Prayer (Friday, 8 pm) and the Solemn Closing (Sunday, 3 pm). If you would like to minister, please email me and let me know by Friday morning so I can be prepared for you.
  • Finally, all are welcome to take part in this experience by spending an hour in prayer and joining us for the Liturgy of the Hours. It's an opportunity for solace, quiet, meditation, and spiritual nourishment, which is especially helpful amid the chaos and noise we all face in our daily lives.

Peace be with you,
Tony

EMHCs · Reminder: Training Session July 24

A reminder that all EMHCs have been asked to attend a Night of Recollection next Wednesday, July 24 at 7 pm in the church, as a means of re-focusing, addressing questions and concerns, and implementing new or revised procedures for this ministry. If you haven't already done so, please email Fr. Terry to let him know whether or not you're able to attend.
