THE WEDNESDAY REPORT: December 14, 2022

Dear Partners in Ministry,

(Yes, I had a four-candle graphic ready for today, but I like this better.)

Congratulations, and thank you all once again for such a wonderful first concert together! While I was quite distracted by our health situation at home, I want you to know how proud and happy I was to make music with you that afternoon. You gave so much joy to those who gathered with us!

Sammy Coyle (Sean's wife) took some great shots of the concert, including our group pic above. I've uploaded a sampling to the website; you'll find them here.

Tonight's Advent Penance Service: Tony's going solo

I have tested negative for COVID, but I would feel better knowing that I can distance you from my potential cooties one more night. So: while I encourage you to join us for the Penance Service tonight, I will be handling music ministry on my own. Come celebrate the Sacrament worry-free (and do sing in the pews!).

Christmas Notes and Updates:

  • SONG SHEETS: I'll have 'em for all our Christmas Masses tomorrow night. I'm going to combine them into one sheet since the music is almost identical for each Mass. Please disregard all previous versions and take an updated copy at rehearsal.
  • CLOSING SONGS: after hearing you and the audience sing the heck out of "Joy to the World," I decided to sub it in as our Sending Forth for all our Christmas Masses. "Hark! the Herald" will be the closer on Jan 1; "Songs of Thankfulness and Praise" closes out our Christmas Season on Jan 8.
  • "O TIDINGS:" Our Communion Song is both new and very familiar. This is a new arrangement of "God Rest Ye Merry" with new lyrics that celebrate what the newborn Christ came to be for us and all the world. I'll have your scores ready for you tomorrow night.
  • PSALM 98: The new setting of Psalm 98 that we've used twice now will make its third appearance this Christmas, this time using Refrain III.
  • SHOW OF HANDS: I'll ask for a "final" roll call on who's singing what Masses tomorrow night. If you know you won't be joining us for tomorrow's rehearsal, please let me know by email.
