Liturgical Ministry

Give your gifts in service to God's people in worship.

As Church, we believe that Christ is made truly present to us in worship through the Word, the Eucharist, and the prayer and ministry of the people gathered. Liturgical ministers are members of the assembly who give of their time and talent to help manifest Christ's presence by proclaiming the Word, distributing Communion, leading the assembly in prayer and song, assisting the presider and deacon, and extending welcoming hospitality to all those who gather in worship.

More information and contacts are available for each ministry below.

  • Altar Servers

Servers provide vital assistance to the presider and deacon during the course of the Mass, from preparing the altar for the Liturgy of the Eucharist to bringing forth vital elements such as incense, holy water, and ritual books. Servers also lead the procession of minsters, bearing the Cross into the assembly.

Altar Serving is open to all adults and to youth from fourth grade onward.

For more information or to become an altar server, contact Deacon Dave Nethery.

  • EMHCs (Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion)

EMHcs assist priests and deacons in distributing the Body and Blood of Christ to the assembly, either at assigned stations throughout the sanctuary or by bringing Communion directly to those unable to take part in the procession. and distributing Holy Communion to the homebound.

EMHCs must be trained and mandated by the Diocese of Cleveland.

For more information or to express interest in this ministry, contact Deacon Dave Nethery.

  • Gift Bearers

Gift Bearers represent the entire assembly by bringing forward the gifts of bread and wine—"the work of human hands"— which will become for us the Body and Blood of Christ. Gift Bearers typically volunteer before each Mass, or are invited to serve by the Coordinator or Ushers. At least two persons are needed at each Mass for this ministry, but entire families are encouraged to serve together. If you are interested in serving as a Gift Bearer, please speak to the Coordinator or an Usher in the Narthex.

  • Hospitality Ministers

Hospitality ministers offer a welcoming spirit to all who gather with us on special occasions such as coffee and donut service after Mass (generally once per month). For more information or to become a hospitality minister, contact Michele Baetzold.

  • Lectors

The proclamation of scripture in liturgy is so much more than mere recitation; it is Christ speaking to us through the Word of God. Lectors proclaim God's Word with reverence and clarity, allowing all those gathered to hear, reflect, and be nourished by the Word. When a deacon is not present, lectors also lead the assembly in the Prayer of the Faithful, making the needs of the world and community known to all who gather.

Lectors should be confident communicators, committed to thorough practical and spiritual preparation, and willing to be at the service of the Word, letting Christ be the voice the assembly hears.

The ministry of Lector is open to all adult parishioners and to youth from sixth grade onward.

Assignments for most liturgies are scheduled automatically through MSP; for certain celebrations such as the Easter Vigil, lectors are scheduled by invitation.

For more information or to become a lector, contact Tony Ward.
