Dear
Parishioner,
Each
year we collect blankets and other materials to help those with
less in our area to face the winter months. Blanket Sunday helps
those in our own city. When you come to Mass on October 7 th and
8 th, we encourage you to bring new or like-new blankets, sheets,
pillowcases, towels and washcloths to church with you. This collection
will allow the St. Vincent DePaul Society of the Diocese to serve
families, children, elderly, homeless and other needy individuals
in our metropolitan area. A donation of cash is actually preferable
since it allows St. Vincent DePaul to purchase new items in bulk
for reduced prices.
On
the same weekend, we collect slightly worn men's, women's, and children's
winter coats, hats, mittens, gloves, boots and scarves in good,
clean condition. These items will be distributed to individuals
in the area of the St. Augustine Hunger Center.
If
you can assist in collecting these items after any of the Masses
on October 7 th and 8 th , please sign up on the volunteer sheet
on the kiosk.
God
has been generous to us. Please make use of these two upcoming opportunities
to show your generosity to others.
Fr.
George Smiga

pleased to announce that Julieta Borja of Mujer y Comunidad

will be here once again on the weekend of 9/30 and 10/1 to speak
with us at our liturgies. After all Masses she will sell products
made by the women. In addition to the small business they began
a few years ago, our delegation to El Salvador this past summer
learned that the women are also conducting sewing, literacy and
human rights classes as well as working to preserve the indigenous
dances of their country. Julieta will be sharing with us all
the ways your generosity has assisted the women. Please take
time after Mass to speak with her and to look over their products
for a possible purchase.
“FAITH
IN ACTION ”
Looking for a concrete way to live out your faith and the command
to love our neighbor as ourselves? Here is an opportunity!
Faith in Action is an outreach program to frail elderly persons
or disabled persons of our area. Volunteers are recruited
to help these people remain independent through friendly visiting,
transportation to appointments, help with errands, light meal preparation
and occasional respite care for family members caring for relatives
in their homes. St. Noel recently became a coalition member
to Faith In Action. The director of the program is Dr. Maita
Jarkewicz, our parishioner. . On Thursday evening, October
5, 2006 from 7 to 9 p.m. Maita will be conducting volunteer training
here at St. Noel. Please pray about and consider this invitation
to make the Gospel come alive for those in our midst who are in
need of these services. Please call 440-954-8359 to register.
