Dear Parishioner,

As I announced a few weeks ago we are working together with our cluster partner, Divine Word in Kirtland, to join our youth ministries into one program. To accomplish this, our two parishes are seeking to hire a full-time Coordinator of Youth Ministry. The search committee which is comprised of four members from each parish has come together to design a job description. (Copies of this description are available in the kiosk.) The committee whose St. Noel members are Marianne Slattery, Diane Bosley, Fred Botek and myself is ready to interview candidates.

It had been my hope that Anthony Camino our present Pastoral Associate and Youth Minister would be interested in interviewing for this new position. This week Anthony informed me that after thoughtful consideration he does not feel this is the right step for him at this time in his life. Anthony's contract with St. Noel runs through June of 2008 and it is our intention to honor it. Anthony has agreed to work over the upcoming months to prepare those involved in the youth programs at St. Noel to be ready for the joint effort with Divine Word. Although many factors must be considered, it would be ideal to have some time in which Anthony could work with the new youth minister to facilitate the transition.

Change is never easy. Anthony has served our parish community in an exceptional way since 1995. In the upcoming months I am sure you will have an opportunity to express your thankfulness for his service. Please also include in your prayers the efforts of our search committee so that they might wisely choose a new minister to serve the youth of our two parishes.

Fr. George Smiga

CARING FOR GOD'S CREATION -

Choices with a Conscience

For many, Christmas is a time to pull out all the stops when it comes to gift-giving, shopping and eating. With growing awareness of global warming and the risks involved with burning large amounts of fossil fuels to manufacture, package and transport goods, it is a wise Advent challenge to find better ways to plan for and celebrate the season.

•  Eliminate unnecessary disposables. Use cloth rags, cloth napkins, cloth towels, ceramic dishes & glass glasses, etc. Think re-usables—not disposables.

•  These days, most everyone is overwhelmed with stuff. Take a day to clean out the clutter, donate unused items and when purchasing gifts keep to this rule. If you bring something new into your home, then make a point of taking one of your old things out

•  Buying items with lots of packaging usually yields you more trash then product. This is especially true of many mail-order items. If you order mail-order items, ask the order taker to put in a request for biodegradable packaging material. If you do end up with excess packaging materials – even the dreaded foam peanuts—don't throw them away, reuse and recycle them.

•  Instead of buying rolls of wrapping paper, wrap your gifts in old comics, decorated brown paper bags, used wrapping paper or even in cloth bags that can be re-used.

ALWAYS OUR CHILDREN- The parent support group for families and friends of gay and lesbian Catholics welcomes you to join us at our next meeting, Sunday, December 9th from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. in the library of the Administration Center at St. John Vianney Church on Bellflower Road in Mentor, Ohio .
