Dear Parishioner,

Each year we are blessed because men and women are led by God's spirit to become a part of the Catholic faith. Often drawn by the example of a spouse, friend or family member, they decide to approach our parish community as a way of entering the Catholic Church. Sometimes those seeking to be Catholic have never been baptized. More often they are already baptized in another Christian tradition and seek full union with us as Catholics.

This year we are pleased to announce that four already baptized Christians are preparing to enter the Catholic Church as they profess their faith this Easter: T hurman Buckley, Anthony Childs, Amber Pilarczyk and Nicole Thomas. Beginning next weekend they will join us weekly for the Liturgy of the Word at our 11:00 a.m. Mass and then be dismissed to reflect upon the Scriptures as part of their formation process. Because there is no one this year who requires Baptism you will notice that our rites at liturgy will be simplified. There will be no signing with the cross in the Rite of Acceptance nor special prayers for purification (the scrutinies) during the Sundays of Lent. This is because our four candidates have already been signed with the cross and purified by the valid Baptism they have received in their original faith traditions.

Nevertheless they still depend upon our support and prayers. As you witness their dismissal at the 11:00 a.m. liturgies, be sure to notice who they are and include them in your prayers as you sing the refrain with accompanies their departure. They are already joined to us through Baptism, so as their brothers and sisters in Christ we are called to encourage them as they travel towards full communion with us at Easter.

Fr. George Smiga
