Dear Parishioner,

On Tuesday November 7 th Bishop Richard Lennon will make his first pastoral visit to St. Noel. As you know, Bishop Lennon came to Cleveland from Boston with little knowledge of our diocese and our people. Therefore, he has wisely made it his first priority to familiarize himself with our area. Hardly a day goes by without him visiting a parish or institution or meeting with a diocesan group.

These meetings are important. In the years ahead the Bishop will make decisions and set policies which will affect us in a direct way. His ability to make solid decisions will be greatly enhanced by accurate perceptions of the parish communities of this diocese. As pastor of St. Noel, I am eager to have Bishop Lennon appreciate the faith and vitality which characterize St. Noel. I know that this can be simply accomplished by inviting him to pray with us and then providing an opportunity to meet us personally.

The format for November 7 th has been designed with this in mind. We will begin with Mass at 7:30 in the church, (the liturgy will be signed for the hearing impaired) with a simple reception to follow in the Banquet Center. To personalize the reception, I am asking you to bring a plate of pastries with you when you come to church. When I was installed as pastor at St. Noel many years ago, I remember how effectively the variety of pastries from different cultures expressed both the welcome and the diversity of this parish. I would like the bishop to have the same experience. Please limit your pastries to those which can be eaten without plates and silverware. You may drop them off in the narthex before Mass begins. If you use a plate which you desire to be returned to you, please be sure that you name is marked on it.

If Bishop Lennon is to be warmly welcomed to our community, your presence is necessary. It is especially important that families with children make an effort to participate. I know how busy all of our schedules are. But please make it a priority to come and pray with our new bishop and tell him personally what St. Noel means

to you.

RITE OF ACCEPTANCE – Next Sunday, November 5 th , we will celebrate the Rite of Acceptance at our 9:00 a.m., liturgy. This Rite is a significant step taken by men and women who seek full communion with our faith tradition. This year, we have two catechumens preparing for Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist. They are Lu Collins and Phil McNeal. As you witness their dismissal at the 9:00 a.m. liturgies in the months ahead, be sure to notice who they are as you sing the refrain which accompanies their departure. Please keep them in your prayers as we travel together towards Easter.

C AMPAIGN MATERIALS   - As election Tuesday approaches, each of us will be deluged with literature, propaganda and sample voting guides.  Please know that St. Noel Church does not permit anyone or any group to place flyers on cars in our parking lot, and if this should happen, please know that it is being done without our permission.   We want the information you receive from the parish to be informed, balanced, accurate and in line with our status as a private, non-profit organization.
