Dear
Parishioner,
It
is with much joy that I tell you this weekend of two people who
will be received into full communion with the Catholic faith during
the month of November. Having already lived as baptized Christians
for a number of years and having engaged in a period of prayerful
study and reflection, both are now ready to be confirmed and join
us at the Eucharistic table.
Why
not wait until Easter you ask? The truth is that we often have had
candidates for full reception wait until the Easter Vigil. They
have come into the Church at the same time as those to be baptized.
However, recent writings and a more careful study of the guidelines
offered by the Church have caused us to rethink our practice. In
a July, 2007 article Fr. Paul Turner, a priest who has written on
and studied the RCIA process extensively, notes that “readiness”
should be the criteria for reception of already baptized Christians.
He points out that if they have lived as Christians, “credits transfer,”
and they may come to the table without undue delay.
In
light of this I invite you to join with me in welcoming Herb Wilde
and Sandy Walker as they make their commitment to the Catholic way
of life, are confirmed and receive Communion for the first time.
Herb will be received into the Church on Saturday evening, November
3 rd at the 5 p.m. liturgy and Sandy on Sunday, November 11 th at
the 11 a.m. liturgy. Until then let us keep Herb, Sandy and all
those considering the Catholic faith in our prayers. Herb and Sandy,
we are grateful for the faith you bring to our community. Welcome!

CARING
FOR CREATION - The first gathering
of the St. Noel Creation Caretakers was a rousing success!
We toured the parish grounds, discovering new things about what
makes up our little slice of heaven. After seeing a new way
to view the creation story, we heard yet again from St. Francis
(convenient since he was in town for last week's GIFT session!).
Then we laid out the plan for future sessions. The next meeting
will be Sunday, October 28th st from 5:30 to 7:30. The focus
for this session will be water. As always, we begin with a
pot-luck supper, and then delve into the concept of living in right
relationship with God's wonderful Creation. There are age-appropriate
activities for the children as well. Stay tuned for more details.
