Dear Parishioner,

One of the desires of every aging person is to be able to remain in his or her own home as long as possible. We hope never to be a burden to our children and never to need the services of a nursing home. There is a way for us, as Christians, to help realize this desire, or minimally, to delay the need for an elderly person to move in with a child or to an extended care facility. Sometimes all that is required is a helping hand for one or two hours a week. So if you are looking for a concrete way to put your faith into action by loving your neighbor, please read on about a program we are endorsing, aptly entitled “Faith in Action!”

Faith in Action is an outreach program to the frail elderly and disabled persons of our area. Volunteers are recruited to help these people remain independent through friendly visiting, transportation to appointments, help with errands, light meal preparation, and occasional respite care for family members caring for relatives in their homes. St. Noel recently became a coalition member to Faith in Action. The director of the program is Dr. Maita Jarkewicz, our parishioner. Maita will be in the narthex after all Masses this weekend to speak with you directly about Faith in Action and to facilitate your signing up to be a volunteer. On Thursday evening, October 5, 2006 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., Maita will be conducting volunteer training here at St. Noel. Please pray about and consider this invitation to make the Gospel come alive for those in our midst who are in need of these services.
