Quick View of Meetings for the Week

Archive of Weekly Bulletins

Dear Parishioner,

There are two items in my letter this weekend: an invitation and a thank you.

The invitation is to our annual clambake which will take place next Sunday, September 19 th from 12:30-2:30 p.m. The meal supports the work of our Prime Time Youth Ministry which offers educational, social, and spiritual events for the teenagers of our parish. These include weekly meetings, youth retreats, and summer experiences which acquaint high school students with the issues of poverty and service. The meal, which is $18.00 for adults ($6.00 for children without clams), includes one dozen clams, broth, chowder, one-half chicken, potatoes, corn, rolls and apple pie. Tickets will be on sale after the Masses this weekend. Please consider having some great food which will support the ministry to our youth.

The thank you is for all those who made our summer Vacation Bible School Program a great success. The program took place the week of July 19 th -23 rd , and was based upon a theme connected to the Olympics called “SonGames.” It provided Bible stories, games, music, skits, and food for 151 children. The program was intergenerational with grandparents and parents participating in many capacities – 54 adults in all. In keeping with the theme the children were exposed to different languages and I would like to thank the following people for their help: Barbara Painter (Polish), Martha Leinweber (German), Adil Senel (Turkish), Megan Slattery and Hannah Daiber (Spanish) Hannah Daiber and Marc Weagraff (French). The children collected over 250 pairs of shoes and sent them to El Salvador for the children in the orphanage at COAR.

Vacation Bible School is one of the most exciting ministerial efforts of our year, and it would not be possible without the co-operation of over 100 volunteers. FAITHFUL CITIZENSHIP – Every four years our Bishops issue a document entitled “Faithful Citizenship” which addresses the Catholic perspective on the elections and public policy. Here is this week's quote from that document: “All believers are called to faithful citizenship to become informed, active and responsible participants in the political process”. A Catholic moral framework does not easily fit the ideologies of “right “ or “left” nor the platforms of any party. We urge fellow citizens to see beyond party politics, to analyze campaign rhetoric critically and to choose their political leaders according to principle, not party affiliations or mere self-interest. We hope that voters will examine the position of candidates on the full range of issues, as well as their personal integrity, philosophy and performance.
