Dear
Parishioner,
With
the high standard of living which we are privileged to experience
in the United States and the advances of medical science, Americans
are living longer lives. Unfortunately, the later years of life
are accompanied by physical afflictions and the need to depend upon
the assistance of others. When families are unable to provide this
assistance, the elderly person must call upon the resources of those
outside the family.
This
is one reason we are very fortunate in the Cleveland area to have
the presence of the Little Sisters of the Poor. The history of this
congregation began in 1839 when Blessed Jeanne Jugan opened her
home to an elderly, poor, blind woman. Today religious women who
belong to her congregation continue to welcome the elderly to their
home. They are motivated by the direction of their founder, “Never
forget that the poor are Our Lord.” They commit themselves to serve
the elderly, especially those with limited means and welcome them
as Christ to their facilities.
Next weekend, September 16 & 17 the
Little Sisters of the Poor, whose home is at 4219 Richmond Road, will
be at St. Noel accepting your donations to support their ministry.
Please help them support the elderly who are now left alone with diminishing
resources. Help them welcome those in need in the name of Christ.
Fr. George Smiga
