Quick View of Meetings for the Week

Dear Parishioner,

Our plans for Generations in Faith Together (GIFT) are moving along thanks to the early registration of so many. Those families who registered early will receive a St. Noel canvas tote bag at our first session in September, but most importantly, these early registrations showed us the trend for the most popular days.

When we piloted GIFT last year, we offered three choices of day and time for each session. We discovered several things from this experiment. First, we divided our community over a three-day period causing parishioners to gather with only a third of the overall group. Second, we resisted bringing in outside resources because speakers often found it difficult to commit to all three days (and we didn't want to change the experience from group to group), and it would have been an economic challenge to pay a speaker's fee three times for one session. Finally, and especially, we worried that we might burn-out our many volunteers. People were willing to generously share their time and talent at each GIFT session last year, but we would also like to find a way to conserve the energy it takes to offer such a complex program.

Therefore, as we plan the 2005-06 GIFT sessions, we will offer two choices for attendance. The results of this early registration clearly show that Wednesdays and Sundays are the most popular choices. So, as you make plans to complete the registration form from the June mailing, do not choose Fridays. Or if you prefer, there are new registration forms on the GIFT table in the Narthex that reflect the new choices.

Soon there will be a small booklet available in the Narthex that will include the theme and overview for each session. You will see a more detailed explanation of the session's format, its objectives and doctrinal theme, guest presenters (as they apply), and even the menu for the day!

Of course, anyone may register for one session at a time, or register for all of them at once. Just drop your registration form in the GIFT box in the Narthex or at the receptionist's desk. As I have said before, I believe that spending a few hours each month to grow in community and deepen our faith is time well spent. I look forward to seeing you at GIFT.
