Dear Parishioner,
Responding
to Bishop Pilla's Church in-the-City Initiative, St. Noel and St.
Augustine have maintained an active partnership over several years.
Together we have helped children and adults of the city learn to
read, explored ways to provide housing for those living on the street,
lobbied the Ohio Department of Transportation to design the inner
belt project in a way that does not negatively impact the Tremont
neighborhood, supported each other in our RCIA and First Communion
programs, introduced a once-a-month interpreter for the deaf at
our 11:00 a.m. liturgy and of course continue to serve a monthly
meal for the homeless. This cooperation is also manifested in the
St. Augustine/St. Noel Partnership Garden where each year parishioners
from both communities plant vegetables to be served in the hunger
center. This life-giving project is made possible through the direction
of Howard and Nancy Fagan. On Sunday, June 27 at 11:30 a.m. this
garden will be blessed by Fr. Joseph McNulty. Parishioners of St.
Noel are invited to participate. The garden is across the street
from St. Augustine Church. Therefore, it would be easy to attend
the 10:00 a.m. Mass at St. Augustine and stay for the blessing afterwards.
Refreshments will be served after the blessing. This event would
be a great opportunity to experience our partnership with St. Augustine
and to recognize the work that our communities have been able to
accomplish together. It would provide a way in which families expose
their children to the work of service and experience another part
of our city. If you have questions or need directions to St. Augustine
call Howard or Nancy Fagan at 440-975-9753.
The
St. Augustine/St. Noel partnership is guided by a steering committee
composed of members from both parishes.
We are presently looking for members of St. Noel willing to serve
on this committee. There is a meeting once a month to identify ways
in which the partnership can grow and become more visible in our
communities. If you would be interested in serving on this committee,
please call me at the parish office. All the good which results
from our partnership depends upon people willing to serve. Please
consider if God might be asking you to give of your time and talent
in this area.
Fr.
George Smiga
DEAR
FATHER GEORGE AND THE PARISHIONERS OF ST. NOEL
– It is with overwhelming gratitude that we say thank you for the
well wishes and the beautiful reception last weekend to acknowledge
our retirement from the preschool program. We truly feel blessed
to have had a small part in so many of our families' lives here
at St. Noel and have had the privilege of being part of a program
that gave us the opportunity to work with so many wonderful people.
Again we thank you.
Alica
and Paula Garbo
THE
ALHAMBRA – A Christian
Organization dedicated to helping mentally challenged children will
be at St. Noel this weekend (June 12/13). They will be accepting
monetary donations outside after all the Masses. 80% of all the
money that is collected here is returned to our own Special Education
Program and the balance is used for other causes in our area. Please
be as generous as you have in the past.
SUMMER
MASS SCHEDULE – This
year as usual we are suspending Wednesday evening liturgies from
June 16 th through August 25 th .
We will, however, continue to have our monthly Mass with the
Anointing of the Sick on the second Wednesday of each month July
14th and August 11th.
REMEMBER
that we do have a bulletin
board located in the hallway outside the church coat-room which
allows parishioners to give notice to services they provide or items
they wish to sell. Taking a look at what is posted can be beneficial.
Frequently, discounts are offered to parishioners. For example,
presently Giulio Noce of our parish is offering a $2,500.00 discount
for any parishioner who wishes to purchase a lot in the Lazio Ridge
sub division in Kirtland and will donate $1.500.00 to St. Noel for
each lot sold. Stop by after Mass to see what services and deals
you can gain from your fellow parishioners.
SOCIAL
JUSTICE GEMS –“A significant
challenge for parish social ministry is to avoid divisiveness; to
emphasize the common ground among social service and social action,
education and advocacy, pro-life and social justice, economic development
and environmental commitment. We need to work together to reflect
a comprehensive concern for the human person in our parish” (U.S.
Catholic Bishops, Communities of Salt and Light ).
SIGNED
LITURGY- On Sunday,
July 4 Mary Smith will be joining us to sign the 11:00 a.m. Mass
for the hearing impaired. Reserved seating can be found in the first
two rows of chairs by the Eucharist Chapel.
