Dear
Parishioner,
At
Christmas time it is easy to think of the hungry and those in need.
But in the summer months our thoughts focus on outdoor activities
and vacations. Yet those who do not have enough to eat are in need
all year long.
This
is why each year we hold a food drive as summer begins. We call
it “Project Summer Stock” and its purpose is to supply our food
pantry through the fall. The need is great. In April our food pantry
provided emergency food for over 60 families in our area. This was
a record high. As the designated government food pantry for Willoughby
Hills, Kirtland, Waite Hill and most of Willoughby we do receive
food from government programs. We are also grateful for the support
of Divine Word in supplying our pantry. Yet, we cannot meet all
the needs of our clients without your help.
Project
Summer Stock will take place next weekend, June 9 th & 10 th
. We welcome any nonperishable foods, soaps and paper products,
but we do have a particular need for the following items: canned
fruits, soup, spaghetti sauce, tuna, peanut butter, jelly, bathroom
tissue, shampoo, bar soap, paper products, dish washing liquid,
and tooth paste.
There
will be containers in the narthex to accept what you bring. If you
do not have time to shop, we will also accept monitory donations
to support our food pantry.
Begin
the summer with an act of charity. Support those who have less.
Contribute to Project Summer Stock next weekend.
Fr.
George Smiga
