Dear Parishioner,
This
year there will be fifty-nine young people of our parish graduating
from high school. Events such as graduations clearly mark the passage
of time. I can join with parents and other members of our community
in saying it seems it was only yesterday that these young men and
women were learning to walk or receiving their First Communion.
Now they are moving on with life, many of them leaving home for
the first time.
Graduations
are worth celebrating. That is why we have sent invitations to our
graduating seniors to join us on Sunday, June 12 th for the 11:00
a.m. Mass and for a brunch afterwards in our parish hall. I know
this is a busy time of the year, but I hope many seniors will be
able to join us for this occasion at which our parish can acknowledge
this important event in their lives. Parents are invited to join
us at the brunch for they deserve affirmation in their role of guiding
their children to this stage of life and support as they themselves
face the transition which graduation brings.
Graduates,
if you remain in town, I encourage you to stay active at St. Noel.
If you are going away to college, we want you to return to St. Noel
as you come home for breaks and vacation and stay in touch with
the parish by checking our web site from time to time. You are still
a part of St. Noel's community and we always want you to feel at
home here.
God
blesses us in so many ways. May the passage of time, which graduation
highlights, remind us of God's continual presence and love at every
stage of our lives.
Fr.
George Smiga
HIGH

invitation should send in the reply card ASAP – thanks!

an usher/greeter at the 9:00 a.m. Mass please call Jim Krause at
216-261-6376. The new schedule starts July 1 st . You would be scheduled

SOCIAL
JUSTICE GEM – “If you
weave enough bad things into the fibers of a person's life,” said
15 year old Maria about life in Harlem, “sickness, filth, old mattresses
and other junk thrown in the streets and other ugly ruined things,
and ruined people, a prison here, sewage there, drug dealers here,
the homeless people over there, then give us the very worst schools
anyone could think of, hospitals that keep you waiting for ten hours,
police that don't show up when someone's dying, take the train that's
underneath the street in the good neighborhoods and put it up above
where it shuts out the sun, you can guess that life will not be
very nice and children will not have much sense of being glad of
who they are.” (Amazing Grace by J. Kozol)
To
speak out for those with no one to speak for them and to see as
the poor and powerless do, is acting with a “preferential option
for the poor.” In the pastoral letter, Economic Justice for
All: Catholic Social Teaching and the U.S. Economy , 1986,
The U.S. bishops called for the implementation of economic
rights for the poor by making economic decisions more accountable
to the common good.
Learn
more about “walking with the poor” by examining the JustFaith curriculum
which begins its new series this September. More details in coming
weeks.

ethic of life, and pro-family. Don't miss this opportunity to read
and to discuss why Archbishop Desmond Tutu has said “Jim Wallis
is compelling, provocative, and inspirational, with the kind of
faith that can move mountains and can certainly move people and
communities.” Please call Rose Fini of our Social Concerns Commission

not be afraid to witness to the hope that dwells in you … Jesus

to serve as priests and as consecrated religious sisters and brothers.
Interested? Ever consider it for yourself? The Diocesan Vocation
Office is sponsoring the “Where Are You Going? Retreat on Saturday,
June 18 th , at the Center for Pastoral Leadership in Wickliffe.

help you come to a better understanding of how you can use your
life to witness for Christ in the Church. The day-long retreat is
