Dear Parishioner,

The Catholic Diocese of Cleveland remains committed to protecting the children of our diocese from the danger of sexual abuse. All who are employed by the Church and who work with children must be trained to provide a safe environment for children. Although the major effort to provide this training was initiated in 2004, the necessity for training continues.

On Wednesday, June 28 th Virtus training, a program to protect God's children, will be offered from 6:30-9:30 p.m. in our Banquet Center/small hall. We are providing this opportunity in conjunction with Divine Word Parish. Anyone who requires certification or recertification for their job is invited to attend. This program however is especially valuable for parents, grandparents and anyone who interacts with children. It emphasizes ways to recognize the warning signs of abuse and how to discuss the reality of sexual abuse with their children in a practical and supportive manner.

The reality of sexual abuse in our society is certainly disturbing. But it must be realistically addressed for the sake of our children. Accurate knowledge and training are necessary to face this issue. The Virtus training session on June 28 th can enhance your role as a person responsible for children and prepare you to protect the children of our community.

Fr. George Smiga

SPEAKING OUT ON HEALTH CARE – Our faith teaching tells us that everyone has the right to affordable, quality health care. Right now, we have a unique opportunity to tell our government what we think would make health care better. The Citizens' Health Care Working Group, a commission created by Congress, is currently surveying the public's opinions about health care through an online survey and town hall meetings. The group is mandated by law to report its findings to Congress and the President this fall.

Until May 15 th , you can make your voice heard here by answering the health care poll, telling what matters most to you about health care, and sharing your own experiences with the health care system. Every voice counts! Go to: www.citizenshealthcare.gov/speak_out/tell_us.php . When you've finished, please pass the word along to your friends and family.
