Dear
Parishioner,
Those
who are sick are always among us. We know of those who are suffering
in our own families and neighborhoods. But there are many with whom
we interact each day who are carrying the burden of physical or
emotional illness. This is why it is important for us as a community
to remind ourselves regularly of those who are sick. Most especially
it is important to remember that our faith can provide a context
in which suffering is eased by God's love. The Sacrament of the
Anointing of the Sick is a powerful aspect of our Catholic Tradition
which asks for God's healing to be present to the sick. In two weeks,
on May 20 th & 21 st , we will be celebrating the Sacrament
of the Anointing of the Sick at all our weekend liturgies. Remembering
the sick among us in this way recalls our own frailty and the need
of God's love.
I
am inviting any parishioners or friends of our parishioners who
are coping with a serious physical, mental or emotional illness
or those dealing with the discomfort of aging to receive the Sacrament
of the Sick at our liturgies in two weeks. Anyone who is willing
to serve as a greeter that weekend is asked to call Fran Armbruster
at 440-729-3976.
Please
begin to reflect if you would like to receive the Anointing of the
Sick yourself or whether some member of your family would like to
join us for the celebration of this healing sacrament.
Even
if you are not ill, your presence at the weekend liturgies, May
20 th & 21 st , is important. Your prayers for the sick among
us is a concrete sign of Christian love and compassion. Please come
to this liturgy, ready to lift up those who seek God's healing and
to open ourselves to God's comforting presence.
Fr. George Smiga

SPEAKING
OUT ON HEALTH CARE
– Our faith teaching tells us that everyone has the right to affordable,
quality health care. Right now, we have a unique opportunity to
tell our government what we think would make health care better.
The Citizens' Health Care Working Group, a commission created by
Congress, is currently surveying the public's opinions about health
care through an online survey and town hall meetings. The group
is mandated by law to report its findings to Congress and the President
this fall.
Until
May 15 th , you can make your voice heard here by answering the
health care poll, telling what matters most to you about health
care, and sharing your own experiences with the health care system.
Every voice counts! Go to: www.citizenshealthcare.gov/speak_out/tell_us.php
. When you've finished, please pass the word along to your friends
and family.
