Dear Parishioner,

It is with joy and a good deal of pride that I announce that David Nethery will be ordained as a deacon next Saturday, May 3rd. David and his wife, Toni,  have been parishioners at St. Noel for 15 years. After four years of studies and formation Bishop Lennon has now called David to Orders.

As an ordained deacon David will participate in the Sacrament of Holy Orders.  He will be able to preach the homily at Mass, celebrate baptisms, and officiate at weddings. He will also as a deacon engage in ministries of service according to the needs of the parish to which he will be assigned. We are hoping that David will serve at St. Noel, although the official assignments of the Bishop will not be made until ordination day.

We do know that we will all have an opportunity to express our thanksgiving for David’s ordination as he assists and preaches at our 9:00 a.m. parish Mass on May 4th. I invite all of you to join us for that celebration. After the liturgy there will be a reception in the Banquet Center from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. So even if you are unable to join us for the 9:00 a.m. liturgy, please stop in the Banquet Center to congratulate David on his ordination.

A vocation to the deaconate is one of many signs of the vitality of our parish community. In our shared faith we should continue to encourage one another to follow the way of Christ and to serve God’s people according to the style of life to which God has called us.

Fr. George Smiga

Something to think about from the St. Noel Endowment Fund…. When is the last time you looked at who was the beneficiaries of your life insurance, IRA or other accounts? It’s time to take a look, update if necessary. If your intention is to leave and IRA to someone other than your spouse the new rule in 2007 allows you to leave the funds to a non-spouse beneficiary who can now roll the proceeds into a qualified IRA. When updating beneficiaries, know that a charity like the St. Noel Endowment fund can be a beneficiary of all or part of your IRA.
