Dear
Parishioner,
Easter
is the time to celebrate the Sacraments of Initiation: Baptism,
Confirmation, and Eucharist. These sacraments were celebrated in
the full and normative sense when four adult members of our community
were baptized
at the Easter Vigil. Throughout the Easter season we will celebrate
Confirmation and Eucharist for members of our parish who are already
baptized.
St.
Noel, together with several other parishes in our diocese, has moved
the celebration of Confirmation to coincide with First Communion.
In this way, the Sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist, which
mark initiation into the Church, can be celebrated together.
Next
weekend forty-eight young people will be confirmed and invited to
share the Eucharist with us for the first time. Eight of their older
brothers and sisters will also be confirmed. As is our tradition
this will take place at our weekend liturgies. Yet, even as we celebrate
Confirmation with those in the second grade, there will always be
a need in our community to offer the sacraments to older children
or those adults who have not yet received it. Therefore, two weeks
from now on May 7 th Bishop Gries will confirm baptized Catholics
who seek the Sacrament:
Jacob
Michael (Vincenzo) Brandt
Rebecca
Ann (Kateri) Britz
Jillian
Frank
Alyssa
Marie (Christine) Fortuna
Katherine
Humphrey Gnau
Patrick
Jenkins Horsburgh
Anthony
Joseph (Peregrine) Kaluza
Carmella
Marie (Elizabeth) Nero
Charles
Lawrence (Edward) Smith
Tara
Susan Smith
Alex
Robert Vidziunas
I
am thankful that the number of candidates allows us to celebrate
Confirmation as part of our weekend liturgies. Every sacrament is
a parish celebration. We should be grateful to be able to participate
by supporting the candidates as they complete their initiation into
the Church and grow from their example of faith in Christ. Please
keep these candidates in your prayers as they are confirmed and
receive the Eucharist with us. Take time to congratulate them personally
after Mass or in the weeks to come.

TEENS
RIDE TO END DEATH PENALTY
- UPDATE
Area
Catholic High school Students for Social Justice successfully completed
their 162 mile bike trip from Cleveland to Columbus on Palm Sunday
weekend. Included in this group was Jill Bartolotta from our parish.
After receiving a special blessing at a prayer service officiated
by Bishops Pilla and Gries, the students set off on their journey,
riding in fog, rain, constant headwinds, and glorious sunshine.
The students prayed the Stations of the Cross at several stops along
the way. They arrived in Columbus on Monday morning and attended
mass at St. Joseph's Cathedral, where they were met by approximately
five hundred other high school students from Cleveland, Columbus
and Cincinnati. The bike-riders lead the protestors down Broad Street,
to the State House, where they held their anti-death penalty rally.
Several bike-riders spoke at the rally and presented legislators
with our signatures. Jill would like to thank everyone for their
prayers and encouragement and will keep us posted on any developments
regarding a repeal of the death penalty in Ohio.
WRESTLING
WITH THE SPIRIT : “Why I Am Proud to Be a Catholic.” Join
us at our next GIFT session (Wednesday, May 3 or Sunday, May 7)
as we come to appreciate our reasons for being Catholic. Father
George will lead the adult session while families work together.
Teens and preschoolers will have their own breakout session. All
groups will identify some key gifts of the Catholic Church, why
we are proud to be Catholics, and gain confidence in sharing those
reasons with others. REMEMBER . . . you are not the only one who
sometimes wrestles with the Church! Together we can gain and share
wisdom.
The
doors open at 5:30 on Wednesday and 12:15 on Sunday. PLEASE
REMEMBER , the Sunday session will begin at 12:45 (15 minutes
later than usual) because we will celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation
at the 11:00 Mass.
BEING
GOOD STEWARDS OF OUR PARISH RESOURCES –Did you know that
a place is reserved and a meal prepared for every person who registers
for a GIFT session? Materials and supplies are purchased based on
that count, too. If for some reason your plans change, please take
the time to call 440-946-1128 x 21 to let us know you won't be there.
It really helps cut down on wasted food and supplies. REMEMBER also,
you can change your reservation day with 24-hours notice .
