Dear Parishioner,
Each year our youth ministry sponsors a Pancake Breakfast to support their programming. This year the breakfast will be part traditional, part new.
The traditional part first…the breakfast will be held in the Banquet Center, including pancakes, french toast, sausage, hash browns, coffee and juice. The proceeds will support our Divine Word/St. Noel Youth Ministry. Middle school and high school youth from both parishes will be serving and clearing tables. The breakfast will take place on Sunday, February 14th from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The cost is $5 for adults, $2 for children 6-12, and children under 5 eat for free. The same delicious breakfast for the same worthy cause is the traditional part.
What is new is this. During the Pancake Breakfast the middle school members of our youth group will be holding a Mardi Gras Carnival in the Small Hall for children fifth grade and younger. There will be jugglers, magicians, contests, games, crafts and Lenten materials. Tickets (5 for $1) will be sold for the carnival with the proceeds to benefit the Haiti earthquake victims. The carnival is an excellent opportunity for parents and grandparents to bring their children for a fun time. And, don’t forget the pancakes!
I hope to see you on February 14th.
Fr. George Smiga
APOLLO’S FIRE CONCERT On Tuesday, February 9 at 7:30 p.m., we will host in our church one of America’s leading Baroque orchestras, Apollo’s Fire. The program which is entitled “Bach Family Fireworks” consists of compositions by the Bach family members. Not only J.S. Bach but also each of his sons will be represented. The string players of Apollo’s Fire will bring electricity to symphonies of the fiery Carl Philipp Emannuel Bach and the quirky Wilhelm Frideric Bach, as well as concertos of the exuberant Papa Bach himself. Tickets are required for the concert. They are available for $20, $25, $30, $40, or $50. Free seating is available for students. Tickets can be purchased at the door or reserved ahead of time by calling Apollo’s Fire (216-320-0012). There will be a free pre-concert lecture at 6:30 p.m. in the Small Banquet Hall.
We are providing babysitting for the concert, but this must be scheduled at lease one week before the concert. To schedule babysitting, please call the parish office (440-946-0887)

WORLD DAY OF SOCIAL JUSTICE: February 20, 2010 has been designated as World Day of Social Justice. Why not mark with some action of charity or justice. Maybe the avoidance of violent language like, "I would kill for a vacation," a violent movie, video or game. Visiting justiceforimmigrants.org, the Catholic Bishops website, to learn more about the Catholic position on immigration reform could be in order too!
CHRISTIANS AND ISLAM: A LENTEN JOURNEY TOWARDS UNDERSTANDING – There are important theological differences between Christianity and Islam, yet as two of the three Abrahamic faiths, we also share a common belief in one God. Our Social Justice Ministry invites you to join us for this four week series which begins Monday, March 1 and continues March 8, 15 and 22. We will meet from 7-8:30 p.m. to discuss articles we’ve read in preparation for each evening. These articles are designed to spark discussion and thought about how to live out God’s call for justice, peace and understanding in our world. You may sign-up on the kiosk or by emailing Alice (ahinkel@stnoel.org) Once you’ve signed up your materials will be in the pick-up box. Deadline for signing up is February 24th.
CONSTANTINE’S SWORD - Our Social Justice Ministry will be showing the documentary “Constantine’s Sword” in the Resurrection Room on Sunday, February 21st at 12:15 p.m. Based on James Carroll’s book of the same name, “Constantine’s Sword” delves into the unfortunate mingling of religion and violence from the crusades to the present day and is 95 minutes in length. Something to think about from the St. Noel Endowment Board…
When is the last time you looked at who the beneficiaries are on your life insurance, IRA or other accounts? It’s time to take a look, update if necessary. When updating beneficiaries, know that a charity like the St. Noel Endowment fund can be a beneficiary of all or part of one of these assets. |
