Dear Parishioner,

It is difficult to believe but Lent begins on February 9 th . It is our custom to herald the beginning of this holy season

with a festive celebration of Mardi Gras. Since Lent begins on a Wednesday the day before was called Mardi Gras which in French means “Fat Tuesday” – the last day of eating and celebration before the fasting of Lent begins. We are holding our Mardi Gras celebration on the Saturday before Lent – February 5 th . It promises to be an exciting evening of music, costumes and good food. The menu is one of Louisiana Cuisine. The costumes are optional but a great deal of fun both for those who wear them and for those who only come to appreciate their creativity. The music will be provided by Larry from Classic DJ Services. The evening will include side boards and a contest for the best costume. Proceeds from the dance will be used to support our Social Concerns Fund.

The Mardi Gras Dinner Dance will be held on Saturday evening, February 5 th from 6:30 p.m. until Midnight. The cost is $35.00 per person. A cash bar will be available.

Reservations are necessary and can be made by calling our parish hall 440-946-6635 or by stopping by at the table in the narthex. We have sold out in the past so please don't wait until the last minute.

I have begun to work on my costume. See you there -- if you can recognize me!

Fr. George Smiga

LIFT HIGH THE CROSS OF CHRIST! – You may have noticed that the mammoth cross which was built by our parishioners and once stood in the area now occupied by our parish offices, has been relocated in the south-east corner of our parking lot. Thanks are due to Eugene DiFranco of our parish who poured the cement foundation and erected this piece of St. Noel's history.

SURVEY RESULTS – results from the survey taken last week before all the Masses are available on the ivory sheets either in the kiosk or on the table in the narthex. Please pick up one after Mass. The survey was organized by the St. Noel Parish Pastoral Council in an effort to gauge awareness of the issues surrounding the priest shortage in our diocese. Next weekend another brief survey will be taken before the Masses to evaluate your preferences for the possible options of dealing with the shortages.

VOLUNTEERS are needed to wash the altar linens. If you are interested, please call the parish office at 440-946-0887. You will be scheduled once every two months.

SOCIAL CONCERNS/ST. AUGUSTINE- On January 30th our volunteers will be serving the meal at the St. Augustine Hunger Center. There is a sign-up sheet on the kiosk if you are able to lend a hand. Also, if anyone would like to bake cookies please bring the cookies with you when you come to volunteer at the Hunger Center or they can be dropped off at church before Mass on Saturday. Please put the cookies in the Nativity Room (formerly the nursery) on the counter and mark them St. Augustine.
