Dear
Parishioner,
For
several years St. Noel has been partnering with a group of women
in Zaragoza, El Salvador, through IPM (International Partners in
Mission). Their group is called “Women & Community” and their
goal has been to provide women of the area with basic skills through
which they can gain a modicum of financial independence. To this
end they have established a sewing co-op and have been successful
in selling some native El Salvadoran items. They have also been
able to secure a few small contracts to provide clothing for various
groups in their area. I was able to visit the co-op this summer
with a group of parishioners when we traveled to El Salvador. We
received a warm welcome and were impressed by the progress that
was being made.
Unfortunately
this fall the women were robbed twice in a two-week period and all
of their equipment and materials were stolen. This is not unusual
in El Salvador
where
the poor are always vulnerable and governmental protection is limited.
Through IPM the women have moved to a new location which they believe
is secure from future break-ins. The work of rebuilding is now beginning.
Our Social Justice Ministry has called upon us to raise $5,000.00
to assist in this effort. As always you can be assured that our
money will go directly to the women and be of immense help in restoring
their hope for the future.
Next
weekend our normal Social Justice collection will be designated
for “Women & Community.” I think many of us can identify with
the discouragement when a dream which was coming true is shattered.
We were instrumental in allowing the effort of “Women & Community”
to begin. Please be generous and allow their dream to be revived
again.
Fr. George Smiga

PRACTICAL
SUPPORT FOR CAREGIVERS
-– Family Caregivers provide 80% of care to our nation's older adults.
Although caregivers take on the role wholeheartedly and often derive
great spiritual blessings from this important work – they still
need support. A terrific source of caregiver information can be
found at www.icaregiver.org
. This free, non-commercial web resource offers:
Information on issues and topics of
relevance to caregivers;
Guides, worksheets and educational materials
to assist families in successful planning;
Direct links and descriptions of other
age-related websites and glossary of terms and jargon that
everyone can understand.
In
addition to your prayers, appreciation and support, the caregivers
you know could really benefit from this helpful web site.

MINISTRY – As an outgrowth
of Bishop Pilla's Vibrant Parish Life initiative which began in
2003, the parishes of the Lake/Geauga District will be partnering
with Hospice of the Western Reserve to bring a Catholic caring presence
to those who are dying in our communities and seek our care and
support at this significant point in their life's journey. Volunteers
will be recruited from the parishes in our district. The goal is
for a community to care for community. Volunteer training begins
January 29 th and runs through March 12 th from 6:00-9:00 p.m.,
