Dear
Parishioner,
Each
year we collect blankets and other materials to help those in our
area who have less to face the winter months. Blanket Sunday helps
those in our own city. When you come to Mass on October 13 th and
14 th , we encourage you to bring new or like-new blankets, sheets,
pillowcases, towels and washcloths to church with you on
the weekend of October 13/14 only . This collection will
allow the St. Vincent DePaul Society of the Diocese to serve families,
children, elderly, homeless and other needy individuals in our metropolitan
area. A donation of cash is actually preferable since it allows
St. Vincent DePaul to purchase new items in bulk for reduced prices.
On
the same weekend, we collect slightly worn men's, women's, and children's
winter coats, hats, mittens, gloves, boots and scarves in good,
clean condition. These items will be distributed to individuals
in the area of the St. Augustine Hunger Center.
If
you can assist in collecting these items after any of the Masses
on October 13 th and 14 th , please sign up on the volunteer sheet
on the kiosk.
God
has been generous to us. Please make use of these two upcoming opportunities
to show your generosity to others.
Fr.
George Smiga
REFLECTIONS
ON PEACE No servant
can serve
two
masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other or be attentive
to the one and despise the other. You cannot give yourself to God
and money.
Luke
16:13
Who
is my master? What changes do I need to make in my life in order
to truly live the gospel, especially in caring for victims of poverty,
war, genocide, human trafficking, HIV-Aids, lack of comprehensive
immigration reform?
VISIT
POSTPONED We received
word this week that Julieta Borja of Mujer y Comunidad, our partnership
in El Salvador, has been ill and will not be able to visit next
weekend as previously announced. We hope she will be able
to reschedule for later this year. Please keep Julieta and
our partnership in your prayers.
