of Weekly Bulletins Dear
Parishioner,
There are some
important developments in our building project. Jance Construction
has signed an interim agreement with the 310 Laborers' Union. What
this means is that even though the strike continues, work can resume
on our project. For the interim, Jance has agreed to meet the laborers'
wage demands. I have been supportive of Jance's decision. Even though
this could result in higher costs, I believe that the majority of
our parishioners would agree that we want to bring this construction
to a conclusion.
We have however,
lost about a month in construction time. We were hoping to occupy
the new building in early July. Now it will be closer to the end
of the summer. This has necessitated some changes in our summer
schedule. Our Vacation Bible School program which runs July 14-18
will not be able to take place on our property. However, through
the kindness of Willoughby Hills United Methodist Church we will
be using their facility for Vacation Bible School. There are still
spaces open for Vacation Bible School. So if your children three
years old through eighth grade would enjoy a week of Bible stories
together with crafts, games, music and good food please call, Marianne
Slattery at 440-946-1128 X 21. Vacation Bible School runs daily
July 14-18 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
Now that the
work on our building project is continuing, I would also like to
share with you how we have been taking this opportunity to attend
to some pressing maintenance needs on our original building. After
discussion with the Building Committee and our Finance Council the
entire roof of our church has been re-shingled and large sections
of underlay which were rotting have been repaired. Repairs to our
basement area which was damaged last fall from a sewer backup have
been completed. Changes to our sanitary system which were mandated
by the county have been addressed. Parts of the church which were
unaffected by the additions have been redrywalled and repainted
to eliminate the dark lines which kept reappearing on the white
walls. We were also waiting until this time to update our phone
and computer systems which for some years have been inadequate.
We will also be adding an automated wheelchair access door to the
narthex. By addressing these maintenance issues at this time we
were able to use contractors and supervisors already on site and
accrue a substantial savings for our parish.
I would like
to thank all of the parishioners who advised me regarding these
maintenance decisions. I believe you will be pleased with the repairs
and improvements which have been made. At the conclusion of this
building project we should all be able to take pride in a building
which can truly serve our mandate to spread the Gospel.

SOCIAL
JUSTICE GEM - "The saints are what they are, not because
their sanctity makes them admirable to others, but because the gift
of sainthood makes it possible for them to admire everybody else.
It gives them a clarity of compassion that can find good in the
most terrible criminals. It delivers them from the burden of judging
others, condemning others. It teaches them to bring good out of
others by compassion, mercy and pardon. We become saints not by
conviction that we are better than sinners but by the realization
that we are one of them, and that all together we need the mercy
of God."
