Dear Parishioner,

Three years ago St. Noel together with several other parishes in our diocese moved the celebration of Confirmation to coincide with First Communion. In this way the Sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist which mark initiation into the Church could be celebrated together. Since our parish previously celebrated Confirmation in the junior or senior year of high school, we are presently in the process of preparing all of the young people of our parish who have not yet been confirmed to celebrate the sacrament. This Friday, June 6th, Bishop Gries will preside at the celebration of Confirmation for 89 young people in grades 7-12 together with 2 adults. The large number required scheduling a special liturgy instead of celebrating the sacrament as part of our regular weekend Masses. Yet, even though the celebration will be limited to those to be confirmed and their families, Confirmation remains a parish celebration. I have listed the names of those being confirmed below. Please include them in your prayers as they complete their initiation into the Catholic faith.

Fr. George Smiga

A PRAYERFUL TOUR OF ST. NOEL CHURCH -

THE CHAPEL PROCESSIONAL CROSS

"For to this end Christ died and lived again, so that he might be Lord of both the dead and the living." Romans 14,9

Hanging on the wall in the chapel is the processional cross used in the early days of St. Noel. The cross is an original carving by Joseph Turkaly. Previously hanging in the narthex, this first processional cross now offers visitors to the chapel an opportunity to reflect and pray. The cross is a reminder to all of Christ's paschal mystery and a promise that our suffering, when united with Christ's, will lead to redemption.

"God of salvation, lead all who suffer in this life to the peace and glory of everlasting life."

SUMMER MASS SCHEDULE - Each year during the summer, our attendance at the 6:45 p.m. Mass on Wednesdays drops dramatically. Therefore, as last year, we are suspending Wednesday evening liturgies from June 4th through August 20th. We will, however, continue to have our monthly Mass with the Anointing of the Sick on the second Wednesday of each month (June 11th and July 9th but we will not have an Anointing of the Sick in the month of August).

"LET THERE BE PEACE" - gathers today (Sunday) in the nursery 12:15 to 1:00 p.m.

SOCIAL JUSTICE "GEM" - Today's reading from Ephesians points out the different gifts given to different people for the building up of the body of Christ. When Catholic social teaching speaks of the radical equality of all peoples, it is not saying we are all the same. It is important to recognize and appreciate the uniqueness of each person, while at the same time upholding the human dignity we share in common. What is important, is to realize that we have not been given gifts for our personal fulfillment alone. Our gifts are always meant to be shard and to used in service to the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of the human family.

RCIA INQUIRY - Our next inquiry session for those interested in exploring the Catholic faith will be on Thursday evening, June 5th from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. Why not consider joining us if you sense God is calling you to grow spiritually by investigating the Catholic way of life. There is no commitment necessary at this point to actually become Catholic. Just bring your questions or concerns. We look forward to seeing you! If you have questions before then please feel free to call Alice Hinkel or Marianne Slattery at the parish office.

PSR REGISTRATION - Families new to the parish or wishing to register a 1st - 6th grader for the 2003-2004 PSR year may call Michelle at 440-946-1128 ext 37. Leave your name, address and phone number and we will mail your registration packet.

THE BELLS OF SUMMER - St. Noel's music ministry will be adding a second handbell choir during the summer months and we are looking for ringers. No prior experience is necessary and the ability to read music is NOT required for this handbell choir. Adults, teens, and children ages 10 and up are all welcome to join. The choir will meet from June until September and will play at selected Masses over the course of the summer. Basic ringing is easy to learn (and fun too!). For more information, contact Marc Weagraff at 440-946-0887.

THE NURSERY IS STILL AVAILABLE! - The nursery, across the hall from the parish office, is still available during the 9:00 a.m. Mass on Sundays--year round. All children, parishioners and guests, from infants up to four years old are welcome to stay in the supervised nursery. Please stop in and visit us during Sunday Mass. The nursery provides a safe place for the little ones to play so that parents can worship in a peaceful and quiet environment.

NURSERY VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED! - Volunteers to staff the nursery are needed. If you have a child who regularly attends the nursery or wish to provide volunteer service to the nursery please contact the parish office at 440-946-0887. We ask volunteers to supervise the nursery one Sunday each month for approximately one hour. We aim to always have two adults and one youth staffing the nursery. We are also in need of youth volunteers. Young parishioners, early middle school age and up, are needed to help play with the children, read to them and offer assistance to the adult volunteers.

ST. NOEL FELLOWSHIP - is held every Thursday at Noon in the small hall. Everyone is welcome to attend.

PRIME TIME - It's our final session at city hall tonight (Sunday) at 7:30 p.m. Play some volleyball, bring a frisbee, have some fun....
