of Weekly Bulletins Dear
Parishioner,
I would like
to bring your attention to an excellent opportunity for young families
in our parish. On Saturday, May 31st after the 5:00 p.m. Mass interested
families will come together in the small hall for a meal and to
hear a presentation on "Choosing a Preschool." Karen Roth
of our parish who has been a preschool teacher for 14 years will
be with us together with Patti Null who is an administrator of a
local pre-school. Their experience will help direct others in how
to evaluate and choose an appropriate preschool for their children.
They will also explain the various teaching methods which different
preschools provide.
When we surveyed
families who were presenting their children for Baptism, the issue
of preschool was high among their concerns. We invite any of you
who might be interested in this topic to join us on May 31st.

BUILDING
PROJECT UPDATE - The progress on our building project has come
to a halt because of a local labor dispute. Local 310 laborers'
union has gone on strike over a desire for a pay and benefit increase.
This strike affects all building projects requiring union laborers
throughout Lake County. Unless the contractors and union can come
to an agreement, we will have to push back the projected completion
date for our new wing. We were hoping to be finished by July 1st.
Please pray that this important labor dispute can be resolved justly
and quickly.
A PRAYERFUL
TOUR OF ST. NOEL CHURCH -
THE AMBRY
"You
prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint
my head with oil; my cup overflows" Psalm 23,5
Sacred chrism, a consecrated oil for initiation, ordination and
the dedication of churches, along with the blessed oils of the sick
and of catechumens is reserved in a special place called an ambry.
Our ambry is in the form of a small window box on the right of the
sanctuary. Rainey Dupuis Studios of Cleveland fashioned the outer
glass of the ambry. At the Mass of Chrism during the Holy Week,
the bishop blesses and consecrates all the oils for each parish
in the diocese. A representative then transfers the oils to the
parish where it is stored in specially marked vessels in the ambry.
"God
of history, may all sealed with the oil of salvation come to sing
your praises in the everlasting kingdom of heaven."
MEMORIAL
DAY LITURGY - will be at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, May 26th.
PARISH OFFICES
- will be closed on Memorial Day, May 26th.
SUMMER MASS
SCHEDULE - Each year during the summer, our attendance at the
6:45 p.m. Mass on Wednesdays drops dramatically. Therefore, as last
year, we are suspending Wednesday evening liturgies from June 4th
through August 20th. We will, however, continue to have our monthly
Mass with the Anointing of the Sick on the second Wednesday of each
month (June 11th and July 9th but we will not have an Anointing
of the Sick in the month of August).
"LET
THERE BE PEACE" - gathers today (Sunday) in the nursery
12:15 to 1:00 p.m.
SOCIAL JUSTICE
"GEM" - The author of the Acts of the Apostles
reminds us that "God shows no partiality." Hence Peter
speaks in favor of making baptism available to the Gentiles. The
Catholic social tradition interprets the gift of all human life
in a way that treats all people equally, showing no partiality from
God's original bestowal of life in the act of creation, to the sending
of Jesus into the world, to the expectation of the final invitation
into God's kingdom, in the Resurrection of the Dead. Such equality
is seldom reflected in its fullness in our culture. When vast inequalities
prevent people from attaining what they need to preserve their human
dignity and develop their potential, people of faith must speak
up for them, just as Peter spoke up for Cornelius in today's scriptures.
HIKING RETREAT
- JUNE 1ST - Join us on Sunday, June 1st for a reflective walk
in the Lake MetroPark's Chapin Forest. It is an uphill/downhill
trail, but the pace will be gentle and meditative. We will depart
from the Hobart Road entrance at 12:30 p.m. and hike to the Rt.
306 entrance, where a pizza lunch will await us in the pavilion.
(A free will offering will be taken.) Along the way, there will
be time for input and reflection. Snacks will be provided for the
trail; you are asked to bring water and a notebook and pen. The
round trip should take about three hours. Sign up on the kiosk by
Tuesday of this week. Call the parish office at 440-946-0887 with
any questions.
PSR REGISTRATION - Families new to the parish or wishing
to register a 1st - 6th grader for the 2003-2004 PSR year may call
Michelle at 440-946-1128 ext 37. Leave your name, address and phone
number and we will mail your registration packet.
GARDENER'S
ALERT - For the fifth year, St. Augustine and St. Noel will
be planting an urban garden on a plot of land on West 15th Street
behind Walsh Hall, owned by St. Augustine. The food grown in this
garden will be used to support the St. Augustine Hunger Center,
where many needy people are able to receive a meal on a daily basis.
The garden is a joint project of our two parishes as a part of the
Church in the City initiative. We will be planting seedlings
on Saturday, May 31st (rain date, Sunday, June 1st) at 9:00 a.m.
If you need directions or have questions, call the church office.
This gardening has been a wonderful experience for all those who
have participated. Why not choose to be a part of it? See you in
the Garden!
THE BELLS
OF SUMMER - St. Noel's music ministry will be adding a second
handbell choir during the summer months and we are looking for ringers.
No prior experience is necessary and the ability to read music is
NOT required for this handbell choir. Adults, teens, and children
ages 10 and up are all welcome to join. The choir will meet from
June until September and will play at selected Masses over the course
of the summer. Basic ringing is easy to learn (and fun too!). For
more information, contact Marc Weagraff at 440-946-0887.
THE NURSERY
IS STILL AVAILABLE! - The nursery, across the hall from the
parish office, is still available during the 9:00 a.m. Mass on Sundays--year
round. All children, parishioners and guests, from infants up to
four years old are welcome to stay in the supervised nursery. Please
stop in and visit us during Sunday Mass. The nursery provides a
safe place for the little ones to play so that parents can worship
in a peaceful and quiet environment.
NURSERY VOLUNTEERS
ARE NEEDED! - Volunteers to staff the nursery are needed. If
you have a child who regularly attends the nursery or wish to provide
volunteer service to the nursery please contact the parish office
at 440-946-0887. We ask volunteers to supervise the nursery one
Sunday each month for approximately one hour. We aim to always have
two adults and one youth staffing the nursery. We are also in need
of youth volunteers. Young parishioners, early middle school age
and up, are needed to help play with the children, read to them
and offer assistance to the adult volunteers.
