Parishioner,
Over the last
few years Marc Weagraff, our music director has arranged a number
of concerts as part of "St. Noel Concert Series." These
concerts not only provide a delightful evening of excellent music
but also raise funds for worthy causes. In the Autumn of 2001, Marc
& Joanne Uniatowski offered a joint vocal recital for the benefit
of Project Hope. Last Summer Audrey Solomon gave a violin recital
for the benefit of St. Augustine Hunger Center.
I would like
to announce the next concert in this excellent tradition. An evening
of duets, trios, and quartets from operatic and musical theater
repertoire will be presented this Friday, May 9, 2003 at 7:30 p.m.
in our church. The program will include selections from Verdi's
Rigoletto, Tales of Hoffman by Offenbach, Puccini's La Bohème,
and The Barber of Seville by Rossini. Also included will be musical
theater selection from The Most Happy Fella, Follies, Oklahoma and
The Secret Garden! Performers will be Margaret Karam, soprano; Joanne
Uniatowski, mezzo- soprano; JR Fralick, tenor; Marc Weagraff, baritone;
and pianist, Leanne Lombardo. The concert is free and open to the
public. A free-will offering will be taken and all proceeds will
benefit the St. Noel Social Concerns Fund.
Please consider
joining us this Friday, for an event that I believe you will truly
enjoy.

A PRAYERFUL
TOUR OF ST. NOEL CHURCH -
THE TABERNACLE
"Then
I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth
and in the sea, and all that is in them singing. 'To the one seated
on the throne and to the Lamb be blessing and honor and glory and
might forever!'" Rev 5,13
The tabernacle is the vessel used to reserve the Holy Eucharist.
Reservation of the Eucharist began as a means to bring communion
to the sick and to those unable to attend the Sunday celebration
as well as Viaticum for the dying. Over the centuries, the practice
of adoration grew in the Church to the point where it is now recognized
as an authentic and solid part of our Catholic spiritual life. Our
new chapel will house the same tabernacle used in the previous space.
The tabernacle rests on a solid pillar fashioned from the limestone
which was a part of the original altar in our church.
"Ever-Present
God, may your abiding love comfort the sick, accompany the dying
and bring strength to all who worship in faith."
CONGRATULATIONS
- to the 41 young members of our parish who will receive the Sacraments
of Confirmation and First Eucharist at our parish liturgies this
weekend. As the Rite allows 20 older family members will also be
Confirmed this weekend. Let us keep all of these children in our
prayers as they become fully initiated into our Church.
HOSPITALITY
- We are in need of help for coffee and donuts after both Masses
on Sundays. Volunteers for the 9:00 a.m. Mass need to set up and
serve and volunteers for the 11:00 a.m. Mass need to serve and clean
up afterwards. If you
feel you can help with this ministry, please call the parish office
(440-946-0887).
"LET
THERE BE PEACE" - We resume our gathering this Sunday in
the nursery from 12:15 to 1:00 p.m. Please join us as we continue
to pray for peace in our hearts, our homes, our communities and
our world.
SOCIAL JUSTICE
"GEM" - Have you ever noticed how often the gospel
writers have the risen Christ greet his startled disciples with
the phrase, "Peace be with you?" If your family would
like some concrete suggestions for living the Lord's message of
peace, check the kiosk (Social Concerns Section) for the "Family
Pledge of Nonviolence." Please take a copy and set aside some
time to prayerfully consider whether this commitment might help
your family to grow in love and respect for one another and others.
HIKING RETREAT
- JUNE 1ST - Join us on Sunday, June 1st for a reflective walk
in the Lake MetroPark's Chapin Forest. It is an uphill/downhill
trail, but the pace will be gentle and meditative. We will depart
from the Hobart Road entrance at 12:30 p.m. and hike to the Rt.
306 entrance, where a pizza lunch will await us in the pavilion.
(A free will offering will be taken.) Along the way, there will
be time for input and reflection. Snacks will be provided for the
trail; you are asked to bring water and a notebook and pen. The
round trip should take about three hours. Sign up on the kiosk.
Call the parish office at 440-946-0887 with any questions.
PSR FAMILIES - Come celebrate the end of a faith-filled year
with liturgy on Monday, May 5th. Students from both sessions should
report to their classrooms at 6:30 p.m. Mass will begin about 6:40
p.m. An ice cream novelty social will follow in the large hall.
Blessed are we!
PSR REGISTRATION
- Families new to the parish or wishing to register a 1st - 6th
grader for the 2003-2004 PSR year may call Michelle at 440-946-1128
ext 37. Leave your name, address and phone number and we will mail
your registration packet.
ELIZABETH
MINISTRY/"ELIZABETH'S ROSES" -
In observance of Mother's Day, the Elizabeth Ministry will introduce
"Elizabeth's Roses" as a unique way to show respect for
the dignity and worth of all life, as well as to identify, pray
for and support the needs of women and their families during childbearing
years. Following all Masses on the weekend of May 10-11, and continuing
bi-monthly thereafter, parishioners are invited to visit the display
in the narthex to select a rose indicating a special need. Rosebuds
may be brought to the area of the church near the carving of the
Holy Family and placed in the vase provided. Pink rosebuds
honor those who are pregnant and for the unborn; red rosebuds
celebrate with families recent births or adoption; white rosebuds
grieve with families suffering a miscarriage, abortion, stillbirth,
infant or child crisis or death; yellow rosebuds remember
those wanting to conceive or adopt. Each rosebud will be accompanied
by a tag with space to provide information relating to a particular
situation. Elizabeth ministers will pray daily for the families
represented, and if requested, will contact the family for ongoing
support. Prayer cards will also be available for personal meditation.
For additional information on the Elizabeth Ministry click on "Caring
Ministries."
GARDENER'S
ALERT - For the fifth year, St. Augustine and St. Noel will
be planting an urban garden on a plot of land on West 15th Street
behind Walsh Hall, owned by St. Augustine. The food grown in this
garden will be used to support the St. Augustine Hunger Center,
where many needy people are able to receive a meal on a daily basis.
The garden is a joint project of our two parishes as a part of the
Church in the City initiative. We will be planting seeds
on Friday, May 23rd (rain date, Saturday, May 24th) at 9:00 a.m.
and seedlings on Saturday, May 31st (rain date, Sunday, June 1st)
at 9:00 a.m. If you need directions or have questions, call the
church office. This gardening has been a wonderful experience for
all those who have participated. Why not choose to be a part of
it? See you in the Garden!
