Dear Parishioner,
There are
two announcements I would like to make today in this letter. After
five weeks of meeting and discernment, the group of parishioners
who were recommended to serve on our Parish Pastoral Council have
discerned from among themselves the membership of our new Pastoral
Council at St. Noel.
Twenty-six
parishioners agreed to be a part of the process and as you can imagine,
it required a great deal of discussion, openness, and prayer to
arrive at the 13 parishioners who will serve a three-year term as
members of the council. The 13 parishioners who have been discerned
and have agreed to serve are: Roe Bensman, Fred Botek, Giovanna
Coccia, Anne DiFranco, Cheryl duLaney, Mary Masse, Mike Mills, Karen
Myers, Dave Nethery, Chip Tusek, Tom Ulepic, Ray Vidziunas, and
Sharon Waltemire. This Sunday, the new council members will be commissioned
at our 11:00 a.m. liturgy. After the liturgy they will join in a
retreat day preparing for their service to our community.
I
want to thank all of those who participated in this discernment
process and ask you to keep all of us in your prayers as we enter
this important new phase in our parish life.
The
second announcement I wish to make is both a recognition and an
opportunity. We all celebrate birthdays but few of us can claim
to have celebrated a 100 th birthday. It recently came to my attention
that two members of our parish have done just that. Madeline Burgeston
will turn 100 years old on February 22, and Barbara Corson, mother
of Corky DiVencenzo, turned 100 years old on December 4, 2003. It
seems to me that when someone has attained that age, it should not
go unnoticed. Therefore, whenever one of our parishioners reaches
a century of life, I plan to bring it to your attention through
the bulletin, and ask you to send them a note or a card mentioning
your connection to St. Noel. Obviously I am asking that those of
you who know a parishioner who is turning 100 years old to notify
us of this special event. Sending a card is a simple action of kindness.
However, if many parishioners choose to do so, this action can be
a strong expression of our care for one another in Christ.
You
can write to Madeline Burgeston at: Hilltop Retirement Village,
25900 Euclid Ave., Room 925B, Euclid, Ohio 44132 and you can write
to Barbara Corson at: Kensington Care Center, 849 N. Aurora Rd.,
Room 57-2, Aurora, Ohio 44202.
Please
consider taking this opportunity to recognize two parishioners who
have truly reached a milestone of living.

Reflections
on Peace - Our
“Let There Be Peace” prayer
and reflection group has been studying the Pope's recent message
for the World Day of Peace celebrated on January 1, 2004.
It is entitled “An Ever Timely Commitment: Teaching Peace,”
and we would like to recommend it to all who are concerned about
the need for peace in our world. Copies of this important
document can be found in the pocket of the Social Concerns section
of the kiosk. Perhaps a prayerful reading of the Pope's thoughts
would be a helpful way to begin the upcoming season of Lent.
Lastly, a reminder that the “Let There Be Peace” prayer and reflection
group meets every Sunday from 12:15 p.m. to 1p.m. All are
welcome!
