Dear Parishioner,
I would like
to give you a brief update on the progress of our construction.
As you are able to see, the walls for the ground level of the new
wing are going up and the roof segments will soon be put into place.
This will give us a clearer idea of the final shape of the building.
All the areas of the church have now been enclosed and roofing in
these areas is now being installed. A re-routing of the heating
and air conditioning ducts inside the church is now underway. The
foundations for the new altar and batismal font are in place. The
altar and font will be installed in the church in the first week
of February. You can find pictures of the construction here.
Overall progress
has been steady and we are still on schedule to return to the church
in March. The construction of the new wing will be completed by
June. Again, I would like to thank all of those who have supported
this project and who have been faithful in honoring their pledge.
Within a few months we will begin to see the results of our commitments.
Fr.
George Smiga
A
PRAYERFUL TOUR OF ST. NOEL CHURCH -
THE HOLY WATER
FONT
There is
one Lord, one faith, one baptism, and one God who is Father of all,
over all, through all, and within all. (Eph. 4:5-6)
Our font was
created from the pedestal of the first ambo designed for our worship
space. It is located in a central and conspicuous place in our narthex,
inviting us to sign ourselves with holy water as we prepare to enter
the church building proper. This action reminds us of our dying
and rising in Christ and our entrance into the living community
of faith through baptism.
"Father,
Son and Holy Spirit, may the life giving waters of this font refresh
and renew us for the work of the Gospel."
FOUNDATION
FOR THE FUTURE STATEMENT - PLEASE NOTE - The statements that
were sent in January have a section at the top which lists your
yearly contribution for 2002 for income tax purposes. This information
will also appear on the February and March statements.
SEEDS OF
LITERACY PROJECT - We have been very pleased with the response
to our call to tutor children and adults at St. Augustine Parish
Learning Center. So far thirteen parishioners have committed themselves
to participate on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. There is now a
need for help during the morning hours from 9:30-11:30 a.m. on Tuesday
and Thursday. Resource material is available to help an adult successfully
complete the GED course and move on to a better life. Children are
in need of math and reading help. This project is part of the St.
Noel/St. Augustine Partnership. Your help in this important ministry
could really make a difference in the life of another person. Ride
sharing is available if wanted. To sign up as a tutor or to receive
more information, please call our parish office (440-946-0887).
Brochures are available in the kiosk in the narthex.
"LET
THERE BE PEACE" - Our peace prayer and reflection group
would like to make available to you a letter that can be sent to
the Secretary General of the United Nations, Kofi Annan, encouraging
him in his efforts to foster peace in the world. The letter is available
in the Social Concerns section of the kiosk and can be sent to the
address in the upper right hand corner, preferably before January
27, 2003. Also, please consider joining us on Sunday, at 1:15 p.m.
in the nursery. We also invite you to join us in a daily prayer
for peace at Noon, or any time of the day that suits your need and
schedule. We have found it encouraging and supportive that other
parishioners are remembering the need for peace and reconciliation
in our world in their daily prayers.
PARISH ITALIAN
FAMILY DINNER - On Friday evening, February 7th we will hold
our Parish Family Italian Dinner from 4:30-7:30 p.m. The meal is
meant to provide good food and a time for us as a parish to come
together socially. Tickets which can be purchased at the door, are
$7.00 for adults and $3.00 for children (ages 6-12). The menu includes
two kinds of pasta, sausage, meatballs, salad, bread sticks, beverage
and dessert. We will need members of the parish to volunteer to
serve food and to clean up afterwards. There is a sign-up sheet
on the kiosk.
WOMEN'S
PRAYER BREAKFAST - Our next gathering will be on Saturday morning,
February 15, 2003 from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. In the Fall we focused
on the past contributions of women in the parish and at this gathering
we will focus on the gifts that we women are bringing to the church
at the present time. Alice Hinkel will facilitate our discussion.
Please consider joining us for this time of sharing in food, friendship
and faith. Signing up on the kiosk will help us in our planning

your favorite mug to help us reduce the use of Styrofoam.
