Dear Parishioner,
On Friday evening,
February 7th we will hold our Parish Family Italian Dinner from
4:30-7:30 p.m. Even with the constricted space we have to deal with
during the construction project, we felt it was important to maintain
this annual parish tradition. The meal is meant to provide good
food and a time for us as a parish to come together socially. There
is a lot to talk about: new ministries, new buildings and the same
good people that keep our community alive.
Tickets which
can be purchased at the door, are $7.00 for adults and $3.00 for
children (ages 6-12). The menu includes two kinds of pasta, sausage,
meatballs, salad, bread sticks, beverage and dessert.
We will need
members of the parish to volunteer to serve food and to clean up
afterwards. There is a sign-up sheet on the kiosk this weekend.
This dinner can provide a wonderful opportunity for children to
work with their parents. Please sign up if you can help.
Consider joining
us on February 7th. Warm a cold February night with the comfort
of good pasta and the caring people of your parish community.
I would also
like to give you a brief update on the progress of our building
project. The pews have been removed from the church and those which
we plan to reuse have been put into storage. Those which will not
be used in the enlarged church have been taken by two other Christian
communities. St. John Vianney has taken some to use in their gathering
area and the rest have been accepted by the First Ukrainian Baptist
Church in Parma. This small Christian community has recently moved
to Pleasant Valley Road and has, up until now, been worshiping with
temporary seating. The Pastor of the church, Rev. Alex Perekrest,
asked me to express the gratitude of his community to our parish.
Since the plans
call for new Stations of the Cross, the stations which were in the
church will be given to St. Augustine Parish for use in their chapel.
Fr. Joe McNulty expresses his thanks for this gift since the stations
which had been in the chapel were there on loan and recently removed.
Adjustments
to the altar platform and the foundation for the new altar and baptismal
font are now underway. The old carpeting has been removed and the
floor will be reconditioned to prepare for the slate tile which
will cover it. The slate will match the tile which is presently
on the altar platform. Norbert Koehn has taken the limestone legs
of the previous altar and is reshaping them into a pedestal to support
the tabernacle which will be located in the new chapel. The areas
of expansion in the church are being enclosed and will soon allow
us to increase the seating capacity of the church.
We are still
on time and on budget. You may find pictures of the construction
progress on our website (www.stnoel.org). Thanks to all of you who
have been so supportive of this exciting new effort in our parish
history.
Fr.
George Smiga
SEEDS
OF LITERACY PROJECT - We have been very pleased with the response
to our call to tutor children and adults at St. Augustine Parish

and Thursday. Resource material is available to help an adult successfully
complete the GED course and move on to a better life. Children are
in need of math and reading help. This project is part of the St.
Noel/St. Augustine Partnership. Your help in this important ministry
could really make a difference in the life of another person. Ride
sharing is available if wanted. To sign up as a tutor or to receive
