Foundation for the Future

Building Project Pictures September and October 2002

In early September some shrubs at the right front of the Church were removed and stored, to be replaced later.
On September 23rd stakes were placed marking areas of excavation.
On September 24th some trees were cut. Many were diseased. On September 26th a front-end loader pushed sod and topsoil to an area adjacent to the church. It will be pushed back in place when the building is complete.
Fr. George is holding the Permit sign in front of Jance General Building Contractors construction trailer.

On October 3rd the Stained Glass window at the Baptistery is covered to protect it during construction from the inside of the Church.

On October 3rd the Large window on the site side of the church is covered for protection.
On Sunday October 6th a simple Celebration and Blessing of the ground was held at the church for all parishioners.

A beautiful Fall day!

Oct 6th 2002

October 7th through 11th:
New electric line was laid. A large green box -- the electric connection box -- stood tall on the site hill.
The interior temporary walls were painted white.
Some of the exterior stone, where expansion will occur was removed and set aside; to be replaced upon building completion.
October 16th:
All electric and gas lines installed. Electric lines are 39 inches deep and gas 18 to 20 inches deep. They go back to the addition of the new chapel.
Able Fence installed fencing surrounding the entire site.
All inside added "protection" walls painted white.
A tool storage area was placed in the Narthex and also pain
ted white.
October 22nd:
It is anticipated the project will take 7 months. We will be out of the Church in January and February. Services will take place in the Large Hall.

Concerning the Nursery: families were surveyed and the majority preferred to have the nursery adjacent to preschool in the lower level of the new wing.
There is a proposal before the Willoughby Hills Building Inspector that would allow us an additional 18 parking spaces on the side of the new wing. The soil from excavation will be used as a base for this parking area.
October 23rd:
The area where the Chapel will stand needed adjustment. More clay was added for a firmer foundation. A cement slab is to be poured over the area prior to Chapel construction.

Earth moving equipment dug and moved soil aside, making way for the basement areas for the new wing. As the work progressed some additional problems developed -- pylons set under ground at the time of original building needed to be removed.
Also parts of the original foundations need reinforcement. The basement area will continue to be readied before construction can begin.
October 30th
Footers were set and below ground walls supported and reinforced where necessary.
Large gravel was laid as a roadway for the large equipment.
