Previously workmen installed underground plumbing which will
carry all waste products from the building to the sanitary sewer.
Cement block is stacked and waiting to become a wall.
The scaffolding has been removed from the chapel wall. Here
steel beams are in place for the chapel and sacristy walls.
Notice the large green tubes. They are the in-the-floor ducts
for heating and air-conditioning, the same kind as those in
the church. The ducts will eventually be encased by the cement
floor.
Workmen are laying out the ducts for the chapel and sacristy.
See the stacked cement block, the black and white plastic,
and the large crane in the distance. The large crane is moving
new scaffolding to the East side of the church. The window
wall will be extended and scaffolding is needed to provide
necessary additional strength for the extension.
The entire lower floor of the new wing will be cement block
construction. If necessary water for the mortar will be
heated. Heaters are also used in the work area. Notice the
plastic coverings pictured here. They help to hold in warm
air and keep out cold wind. Cement block can continue to be
laid even in cold weather.
Snow came early! However, outside work continues and close
to schedule. Here new beams for the church addition are hoisted
into position.
Two workmen are getting mortar ready for the basement cement
block walls. Notice the heater beside the mixing trough. The
area is covered with plastic and heated with propane. A large
white propane tank is at ground level.
Notice the scaffolding under the plastic. Walls for the office
wing are being constructed. The propane heater, jackets and
hoods give us temperature clues.
Peek under the plastic to see workmen laying block upon block.
The foundation wall will grow to 11 feet. Afterwards, 16
courses of block will rise above ground.
Work is being done in the present church basement, readying
it for the addition.
Basement Walls rise to the first floor level. Note extended
area which is the elevator shaft.
Hip boots needed here! In the background note the steel beam
extensions for the church. The structural roof system is waiting
for wooden covers.
Structural roof system extension, or bump out area, is seen
here. Purlins have been installed.
A view of the chapel area. Here we see beginnings of new wall
extensions.
